This blog is about my personal goal to reach 105 lbs before I go back to the Philippines on August 31.
My current weight is okay, at 112.6 lbs,I am still on the normal range in the body mass index. My aim to be at 105 lbs goes further than my dream to have a Jennifer Aniston body (ambitious much?). I want to be at 105 lbs so I can do more, be more active and more healthy. And since I have slower metabolism now, I cannot just eat anything and expect the calories to burn instantly.
I am not a sporty type of person. For most of my life, I disdained sports except for swimming. My weight was not a concern for me because when I was in high school and even until college, I was at 90 lbs for a long time until I started working. Sitting in front of the computer for long hours, 6 days a week, munching on junk food while working and having late night snacks gave me bulges.
I then decided sometime in 2003 to go to the gym. I was just doing my own thing-lifting weights, which, I later found out were too heavy for my body type. Soon enough, I toned my body to the point that my officemates told me I already formed masculine shoulders.
Eventually, I got caught up with work and didn't make time to work out. I bought a pair of 5lbs dumb bells and downloaded some workout routines. However, since I was already working on night shift at that time, it became more difficult for me to stay fit. While on shift, I ate rice meal at 2am then when at home, I had lunch at 12pm and slept almost immediately to prepare for my 10pm shift. I still worked out, every once in a while, but my abnormal body clock contributed to my weight gain. I don't remember now how much I weighed at that time (2008-2009). I just know that I felt heavy, I moved slower, and my boyfriend often told me I was getting bigger.
It was painful and even though I psyched myself up about tracking my food intake and doing regular workout,it was difficult because I am a lover of food. I eat all kinds of food-meat, vegetables, fruits, pasta, pastries, etc. But I often settle for unhealthy food because it is easier to prepare. Most of the time, I find myself too lazy to skin an apple.
I had an aha! moment though a week before I went back to the Philippines in March 2011 to prepare for my wedding. I worked out at the gym daily for one week, tracked my food intake and chose to eat healthy and before I left, I learned that I lost 3 pounds in a week. So I figured, it is possible! I can make it!
With my "Road to 105" plan, I am thinking of doing the same routine which helped me lose 3 pounds in a week - work out everyday (which will include 5 to 6 days work out at the gym, 2 to 3 aerobics classes), track food intake, drink lots of water & choose healthy food. Hopefully, I'll be at 105lbs in 2 months time.
Along the way, I maybe sidetracked from my goal. Because of work, I may not be able to work out religiously or because of impulse eating, I might end up consuming unhealthy food.
But unless I dare to take the 1st step, I will not succeed.
